Tested side by side
TypeHey vs Typeless, tested
On the same Mac, with the same 19 recordings played twice each, we measured speed, accuracy, and whether the spoken request produced working code in Claude Code. In short: TypeHey is more than twice as fast, Typeless is slightly more accurate. Numbers, method, and where Typeless wins are all below.

* Apple Dictation types as you speak and does no clean-up, so its speed isn’t comparable. Pricing: TypeHey’s 10-hour pack is $6 and never expires, plus 1 free hour a month; Typeless Pro is $12/month billed yearly or $30 billed monthly (official site, October 2026). Wispr Flow and others are still being tested and will be added.
How we tested
19 recordings: Chinese schedules, emails, lists and numbers; English messages and lists; mixed Chinese and English (bugs, deploys, meetings); a one-minute status update; and 8 coding requests. The voices are AI-generated Mandarin and English, played through the Mac’s speakers and picked up by its microphone, like a person talking to the computer. Both apps were used tap-to-start, tap-to-stop; we timed from the second tap until the text stopped changing.
“Key points kept” checks that every fact (times, numbers, names, requests) survived; “English terms kept” checks words like useEffect, PR and deploy. For coding, the typed text went to Claude Code unchanged and hidden tests checked the result. Tested October 4, 2026, with TypeHey 2.0.2 and Typeless 2.8.1 for Mac.
Where Typeless wins
Slightly more accurate: 100% on key points and English terms. It writes spoken formats the way they’re written — “one h thirty m” becomes 1h30m, a phone number becomes 138****5678 — so all 16 coding runs in Claude Code passed. TypeHey passed 13 of 16; most misses came from one task where a duration format was typed out as English words.
Where TypeHey wins
Speed: 0.84 s median from stop to text, versus 1.87 s; the slowest 10% took 1.66 s versus 2.18 s. The more you dictate, the more that second adds up. On price, TypeHey is 1 free hour a month, then pay-per-hour that never expires; Typeless is a monthly subscription.
What we changed after the test
The test exposed two TypeHey problems, both fixed since: spoken formats and numbers are now written the way they’re written (phone numbers, versions, email addresses, prices), and the last sentence is no longer occasionally dropped when “no ending period” is on. We haven’t re-run the same test since the fix; we’ll update this page when we do.

FAQ
Why was Typeless more accurate?
Mostly spoken formats: it wrote durations and numbers in their written form, while TypeHey typed them out as words. We’ve since fixed that.
Why is TypeHey faster?
TypeHey recognizes as you speak and starts cleaning up the moment you stop, and users in mainland China go through our Guangzhou servers instead of overseas.
Will you test with real voices?
Yes. We’ll re-test the fixed version with real voices and more tools, and update this page.
